What is the Panhellenic Council?
The McGill Panhellenic Council is part of the National Panhellenic Conference (NPC) which is an umbrella organization for 26 International Women's Fraternities. The Panhellenic Council is the student run governing body of the McGill University Sorority community. There are currently 4 NPC sororities active at McGill. The NPC's purpose is to foster interfraternity relationships and to cooperate with colleges and universities in maintaining the highest scholastic and social standards.

What is a women's fraternity/sorority?
A women's fraternity or a sorority is a network of women united by a set of common ideals, principles and aspirations which are demonstrated through scholarship, leadership development, philanthropic events and lifelong friendship, such as written in Panhellenic's Creed.

How much does it cost to be a member of a sorority?
Membership dues average $300 to $400 per semester for new members and $250 to $350 per semester for active members. Sorority dues cover costs for the events that take place during the course of the semester. It may seem like a lot, but $50 per month is the best money you'll spend at McGill considering all the benefits that come with it. All sororities have payment plans (semesterly, monthly) and offer scholarships to offset costs. If you are concerned about payments, ask the women in each sorority (those with student loans and part-time jobs) what they do to cover costs and why they think it's worth it!

Will my life at McGill revolve around the sorority I join?
Members of sororities at McGill are involved in wide range of extracurricular activities including student councils, sports teams, and volunteer programs. Many have jobs on and off of campus. However, you will get out of a sorority what you put in and you do have certain obligations to your sorority. You will find that the time you put into your sorority will be rewarded by the bonds of sisterhood that are formed by your time at McGill.

What about hazing?
There is absolutely no hazing.  No sororities at McGill haze. Each member of each sorority signs a contract stating they comply with the rules of regulations of their international organizations and that they will not participate in hazing. Hazing is any willfull action that recklessly or intentionally that harms a person's physical or mental health. This is forbidden by National Panhellenic Sororities and the McGill campus.
