WHY JOIN?
1. The Greek Community
McGill is a large university and being Greek provides a sense of community within a community within a big school. Not only will you being joining McGill's greek community which consists of 4 sororities and 9 fratenernities, but you will also be joining the international Greek community. There are currently 9 million members of the Greek community in North America and England!
2. Scholarship
The Greek system recognizes the importance scholastic achievement and a central part of the sororities is the furthering and fostering of academic excellence in women. In order to remain an active member of a chapter, members must maintain a minimum grade point average. Each chapter strives to support their members with scholastic programs that provide incentive and support to encourage each member to reach their highest academic goals.
3. Sisters for Life
As a member of sorority, not only do you reap the benefits of membership at university, but the benefits of joining continue after graduation. In today's job market it is not only important what your know, but who you know. When you join the Greek community, not only do you become friends with the members of that chapter, but you also begin to build relationships with the families and friends of those members and alumnae from all over the country. By joining a Greek letter organization, a person can create an entire network of people, from which could possibly come a future employer, a spouse or a lifelong friend.
4. Get Involved
Greek organizations allow members the opportunity to expand and develop their leadership skills within their chapters and in the getter McGill community. Members of the Greek community are represented in many campus groups. As a Greek member, you will have the opportunity to become involved in a variety of Greek organizations outside your chapter such as the Inter Greek Letter Council and the Panhellenic Council.
5. Philanthrophy
Every year Greek students give thousands of hours of service to the community. Members donate time to help with projects such as Spaghetti for Spelling, Charity Demin, Sock Drive and trips to Old Mission Brewery. Greeks also sponsor fund-raising activities and events for charitable organizations. Each has its own national philanthropy, which it supports on an ongoing basis.
6. Social Events
The Greek community gives many opportunities for memebers to mix and mingle. Every year, the Inter Greek Letter Council at McGill hosts a Welcome Back Greek Mixer and a Semi-Formal that occurs after Winter Greek Week. Each chapter has links to other sororities and fraternities where mixers and other social events such as holiday dinners and community service trips can be planned.

As a member of a chapter, you are given the rare opportunity to befriend senior sisters who can act as mentors and guides for your university life. Not only do your sisters provide information about housing options and course recommendations, but they are also the girls you can look up to and trust for advice.
